Bishop John H. Ricard, S.S.J. Speaks About The Path That Leads To Life Eternal

“Peter wanted to build tents for Jesus, Moses and Elijah. He wanted to hang on to this profound, mystical experience of the presence of God. They wanted to stay on that mountaintop. You, too, will want to hold onto the moment of nearness to God, but you will have to come back down from the mountain, just as the apostles did. We all have to come back down into the valley, until our souls are united with God in eternity. It’s God’s way of purifying, of purging us of all that is not of God, of everything that is not holy, not good. God purifies us through our difficulties, suffering and pain. That’s what this journey is all about. Don’t be discouraged by the rocks and stones along this narrow path. If you get off it, get right back on, because this is the path that leads to life eternal.” (Most Reverend John H. Ricard, S.S.J., Bishop of Pensacola-Tallahassee, speaks to prospective Catholics at the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Pensacola, Florida, on March 4, 2007)
